This is his third one-man show in the U.S. by Italian artist Luigi Billi, whose work been shown i internationally. Naturae is a series of still lives featuring objects drawn from the household environment and composed to create contrapositions and convergences. The photographs are laminated and crumpled, using the technique of accartocciamento, almost in a gesture of refusal. The technique offers a duality of meaning, suspending the image between refusal and retrieval.

-   Diane Arbus -
    Family Albums

Grey Art Gallery, NYU
100 Washington Square East, Greenwich Vill

On View: 2/4 -3/27/04
Salon: Wed, Feb 4 & March 3, 6-8pm

Diane Arbus: Family Albums sheds new light on the working process of the extraordinarily influential American photographer Diane Arbus (1923-1971). The exhibition features over 50 black-and-white photographs along with 57 contact sheets by the artist, a large number of which have never before been publicly exhibited. The first museum show devoted to her work since her posthumous retrospective in 1972, Diane Arbus: Family Albums reveals Arbus's fascination with the complex and often contradictory notions of "family" that surfaced during the turbulent 1960s. For more information, call 212-998-6780.
