In addition to his portrait commissions, Pena enjoys landscapes, still-lifes, and uncommissioned figure studies.

" Everett Kintsler always stresses the need for artists to paint a range of subjects, not just portraits," Pena adds.

I agree with him on that.

The great masters of the profession were accomplished at painting all kinds of subjects and in some cases, making prints and sculpture.

2015 was Pena's fourth year as president of the Audubon Artists, Pena also served as Treasurer of the National Society of Mural Painters and as vice president of the Artists' Fellowship.

His awards included the Benjaimin Altman Prize for Landscape, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Award, and the Allied Artists of America Gold Medal.

In New York, Pena taught at the Pratt Institute, the Art Student's League, Parsons, and the School of Visual Arts; in New Jersey, he was a faculty member of the Monclair Museum School.

He also taught privately and conducted workshops in New York and Maine. Pena is represented by Portraits Inc. and Krasdale Gallery in New York city, Brazier Fine Art in Richmond, and Magidson Fine Art in Aspen, Colorado.
